421.44% Increase in Email Subscribers for Travel Bloggers

In 2016, travel influencers Mary and Peter Rodriguez were on top of the world (literally).

Their partnerships with brands like Marriott would send them to exotic locations across the planet. In return, they would document their journey on their popular travel blog and promote it via their massive Facebook page.

In late 2016, Facebook changed their algorithm to reduce the organic “reach” of pages. Overnight, they were struggling to drive traffic to their blog posts.

No traffic meant no partnerships.

The duo realized quickly they needed to get their Fans off of Facebook and into an email database. That way they’d always be able to reach their audience, regardless of the algorithm.

They chose Capture & Convert because of the simplicity of turning existing blog posts into email capture landing pages.

The results were astounding. In just 1 year they were able to 4x the size of their email list.

Mary and Peter use a 3 pronged approach to capture email addresses…

1. Turned existing posts into PDFs

The site had a number of blog posts that performed well with visitors, including a series of guides about their travels in Key West Florida.

These posts were driving a lot of organic traffic from Google, but they had a high bounce rate (aka people were coming to their guides and leaving after reading).

They were giving away awesome information but seeing no value from it.

The duo decided to take these blog posts and turn them into visual PDF guides that people could print out and use on their trips.

Using our Email to Unlock forms, they locked these PDFs in exchange for an email list.

2. Upgraded their newsletter subscribe form

Their blog content was their most valuable asset, they needed to squeeze more conversions across all posts.

Mary and Peter were using generic newsletter opt in forms on all of their blog posts.

Not only did these forms perform poorly, but they email contact generally unsubscribed right away.

They decided to leverage a more enticing call to action to build an email list of people looking for hotel discounts.

This allowed them to do a number of things:

  1. Leverage their relationships with companies like Marriott to get access to unique discounts
  2. Offer a better value proposition for those who opted into their newsletter list
  3. Build a list of targeted people who are interested in saving money on travel

They were able to build a hyper targeted community of people who were actually interested in their updates, updates that directly aligned with their monetization of the website. This drove email open rates through the roof and made their brand partners very, very happy.

3. Removed popups, inserted “floating widget”

While pop up forms are effective at capturing email addresses, they’re also incredibly ANNOYING.

Peter and Mary realized they needed to do a better job of nurturing their community and encouraging return visits to their website.

They underwent a massive change to their website’s design to make it more user friendly to visitors.

This also meant removing pop ups from across their website.

They replaced pop ups with a series of Floating Widgets targeting different value propositions to their target audience.

Since Capture & Convert is controlled by short codes, they created multiple widgets to personalize offers to their audience based on which page they were browsing.

The results speak for themselves

Peter and Mary saw incredible results – over 421% increase in their email subscriber list.
